Andes Skiing Tour - Patagonia - August 2012

Did you know that Patagonia is one of the world's best locations for skiing?  With out new tour in August 2012, you can follow the trail of the old Welsh settlers from the Atlantic coast, along the spectacular landscape of the plains to Esquel and Trevelin - which are situated at the foot of the Andes Mountains.

On the way, you will meet the Welsh communities of Trelew and Gaiman, and will have a chance to see how the Welsh Argentines live their lives over a cup of tea in one of the famous Welsh tea houses of Patagonia.  You will also have a chance to see the incredible wildlife of Peninsula Valdés, where there are enormous whales swimming just off the beach, as well as elephant seals and penguins.

You will then make the unforgettable journey across the "paith" (plains), stopping along the way at sites of Welsh interest.  Not only is the paith full of spectacular views of rocks that stand like giants throughout the landscape, it is also woven into the history of the Welsh settlement, as this is where an expedition of settlers travelled in 1885 in search of new lands to colonise.  The story has been made famous by the actor Matthew Rhys's book, and he has also starred alongside Duffy in the film "Patagonia" which was released this year.

After crossing the plains you will reach the area of Esquel and Trevelin.  Trevelin is a small town, but one that is famous for its picturesque views of the mountains, and the number of birds - including condors - who live in the region.  Esquel is larger, and huge mountains tower above the city.  Here you will visit Ysgol Gymraeg yr Andes and meet the next generation of Welsh Argentines, as well as the adults of the community in an asado barbecue organised specially for your group.

After enjoying the city of Esquel, you will then move on to the mountains around the city, spending a few days enjoying the fantastic slopes of this region.  The slopes of Patagonia are suitable for all kinds of skiing, and there's something for every age group and ability.  The facilities are modern, with lifts to transport you up the slopes and it is also possible to hire ski equipment.  This is surely the best way to end any trip to Patagonia!

Unfortunately we cannot give specific dates for this tour as yet, however it is likely to take place mid-August 2012.
