Michael D. Jones (1822 – 1898) 'Tad y Wladfa' ('The Father of the Colony') responsible for spreading the idea across Wales and working to make the dream of the Wladfa come true.
Edwin Cynrig Roberts (1838 – 1893) one of the leaders of the Colonial Movement in the USA and one of the first to emigrate to Patagonia.
Capten Love-Jones Parry (1832 – 1891) a strong character in the develpoment of the Colonial Movement and an important sponsor of the venture.
Lewis Jones (1836 – 1904) a key figure in the Colonial Movement he was crucial to the preparation and sustaining of the Wladfa.
Abraham Matthews (1832 – 1899) the first religious minister of the Wladfa and author of Hanes y Wladfa Gymreig
John Daniel Evans (1862 – 1943) known in Spanish as El Baqueano one of the pioneers who found the fertile lands in the Andes, founder of the mill which gave the town of Trevelin its name.
Jorge Luis Fontana (1846 – 1920) an Argentinian who was in charge of the first expedition across the desert from the Chubut Valley to the Andes in the company of the Rifleros del Chubut.
Eluned Morgan (1870 – 1938) daughter of Lewis Jones, author of Gwymon y Môr and Dringo'r Andes, teacher, editor of the newspaper Y Drafod, founded the middle school in Gaiman.
R. Bryn Williams (1902 – 1981) author and poet who emigrated from Wales to Trelew with his family when he was 6 years old, almost all his work reflects life in Patagonia, many Welsh know Patagonia through his books and stories.
